Tigh Mor Trossachs

Stirlingshire, Scotland

Lake Katrine and Brenachoile walking and hiking route

Total distance
Total ascent

A walk which starts and finishes on the Loch Katrine shore road (tarmac), but also explores good forestry tracks with excellent views along the length of the loch. Using bicycles to reach Point 1 would reduce the amount of walking on the hard surface.

Walk Instructions

Start Point

Loch Katrine car park. Turn right from Tigh Mor and at the first junction, in about ¼ mile, keep straight on towards Loch Katrine. The car park is in about ¾ mile.

Walk Instructions

From the car park, follow the private (to vehicles) road along the north shore of the loch. The barrier at the start of the road is between the ticket kiosk and the cafe.

In about 1.8Km (just under half an hour) you will find two wooden barriers with a green waypost on the right hand side of the road at Point 1 (NN492087).

It is about 100m beyond a small burn.

Turn right here and follow the path, zig-zagging uphill and passing under some power lines.

In about 500m (15 mins) you will join a track at Point 2 NN493089.

Keep to the left at this junction and contour along the hillside for about 400m (6 mins) to a fork at Point 3 (NN491091).

Take the right hand fork, rising slightly. In about 800m (12 mins) ignore a minor path on the right - you are still following green wayposts.

In about 1.3 Km (20 mins) you will reach the end of the track at Point 4 (NN478106) where there are another two wooden barriers.

Pass between these and zig-zag down the path for 700m (12 mins) where there are a further two wooden barriers where you join a track (NN476103).

Turn right, pass through a wooden gate and in about 100m (1-2 mins) cross a small burn.

In another 100m (1-2 mins), at Point 5 (NN475104), turn sharp left onto a faint path. There is a green waypost but you have to look out for it.

This leads down to the Loch Katrine road just west of Brenachoile Lodge. Turn left and follow the road back to Point 1 in about 2.5Km (40mins) and thence the car park.

You should only invest in HPB for its holiday benefits – consistent quality and a no profit "user charge" to cover costs rather than a commercial rent. Although you can surrender your investment back to the company after two years or more you should not expect a full return of what you have paid. What you get back will reflect initial and ongoing charges and costs as well as changes in the value of the properties and securities in the fund in which your money, after charges, is invested. A summary of initial and ongoing charges is in section E of the Product Particulars. Exceptionally surrender may be deferred up to twelve months. Minimum initial payment £5,000 and then a quarterly fee of around thirty pounds linked to RPI. No medical examination required. HPB is available exclusively through HPBM who will only charge for their services if you invest.

HPBM promotes only HPB and is not independent of HPBA. Holders of policies issued by HPBA will not be protected by the Financial Services Compensation Scheme if the company becomes unable to meet its liabilities to them but Isle of Man compensation arrangements apply to new policies.
