Walk 8 - Il Padule, the flat area of Stigliano walking and hiking route

A nice walk in the flat area in front of Sigliano Castle. This easy
route pass through the plain between Rosia and San Rocco a Pilli
with the views of Siena and Rosia and the hilly wood-land of Orgia.
WALK
Leave the Palazzo descending the access road, pass the Poderina
Castle and
1. Cross the road and go straight in the non-surfaced road in the
direction of San Rocco. Follow the path, cross the small bridge and
pass the Podere San Giusto. Cross another little bridge and turn right
along the canal on the left side there is another restored farm house.
2. Follow the road and turn right over the bridge towards Podere San
Luigi (signposted).
3. Once you get to Podere San Luigi stay on the left side of the houses,
go straight over the bridge and continue straight until the main road.
Cross the main road and turn right towards Monte Stigliano farm.
Reach a large block of derelict properties(Vacchereccia), turn right
into the field road that runs along the side of the house. Continue
along this trail and you will soon reach Valli, a sad looking abandoned
hamlet. Carry on to a junction with a simple iron cross on a brick plinth
on the left (may be hidden by foliage).
4. Bear round to the right, the immediately turn right in front of the
disused quarry to follow another, undulating lane. The near little
Stigliano cemetery can soon be seen below. At a junction bear right,
between the grass paddock of Poderina Castle and join the tarmac
road leading to Palazzo Stigliano. Turn left to rise to Stigliano church
and return to the Palazzo.
