Le Mont de St Siméon

Île de France, France
Le Mont de St Siméon Things To Do

Nearby, the fascinating medieval town of Provins, which is a short drive south of St Siméon, is well worth a visit.

Other activities available locally include canoeing and kayaking, horse riding and bike rides along the old railway line. Our quiet country lanes are ideal for walking and cycling.

Châteaux, châteaux everywhere

Châteaux, châteaux everywhere

Located some 50km south-west of St Siméon, the great French château of Vaux le Vicomte was built between 1658 and 1661. Unique at the time, the building, gardens and interior were all planned together as one 'ensemble'. Architect Louis le Vau, interior designer Charles le Brun and landscape architect André le Nôtre then went on to create Versailles Palace.

Keep driving to arrive at Fontainebleau and its palace, one of the largest French royal châteaux. Many French monarchs built upon the early 16th century structure, arranged around a number of courtyards. The remaining Forest of Fontainebleau is a former royal hunting park.

Children will adore the all-weather entertainment at Disneyland Paris, situated about 30 miles west of St Siméon. Or try the lesser known but equally interesting Astérix theme park (open from April to October), just to the north of Paris.

Château de Vincennes is another massive French royal castle in an eastern suburb of Paris. Constructed in the 14th century by Charles V, it is one of the most important castles in French history, and one of the largest in Europe.

The city of love (and monuments)

Of course, no holiday in the region would be complete without a trip to Paris itself. Europe's most vibrant, romantic capital city is an easy 40-mile drive, with plenty of parking.

As well as Paris' iconic Pompidou Centre, Eiffel Tower, Champs Elysées, galleries and museums, visit the Grande Arche de la Défense. Designed in 1983, the monument is the result of an international contest. It was inaugurated during the 15th G7 summit and on the bicentenary of the French revolution.

West of Paris, Thoiry Castle's African safari, zoological gardens and unique labyrinth will keep the whole family entertained. You could also spend an entire day exploring the palace and gardens of nearby Versailles, as well as the Musée de l'Histoire de France.

While you're there, head to élancourt's France Miniature, a 12,000-acre miniature map of France. Discover the country's most famous monuments and then buy a regional speciality or craft from the shop.
