Pottery Courses in Cumbria

Pottery Courses in Cumbria

Gosforth Pottery Courses are a great way to get creative whilst holidaying in the Lake District. Cumbria's stunning landscapes have long been renowned for inspiring creativity in the likes of poets, artists and authors. And the little village of Gosforth is ideally located toward the west of the Lake District amongst beautiful, peaceful surroundings. It's a lovely place to explore while you're in the area.

The pottery courses are great for any age and ability, whether you're looking to learn a new craft, develop existing skills or simply try something a bit different with the children. The studio consists of a little shop, so you can browse the unique collection of ornaments and souvenirs, or buy something beautiful for your home or garden. Have a go a turning your own pot on the potter's wheel, or if you don't fancy having a go at the full process you can paint one of the ready-made items available such as ceramic shapes or crockery.

Courses are weekend-long or can last the entire week, so food and accommodation are on offer in the attached Cumbrian farmhouse. Alternatively you can stay offsite and travel in, midday meals will still be provided as part of the cost.

This is your chance to try hand building, press moulding, throwing, turning, glazing and kiln firing. Try out the potter's wheel and see what you can create!

While in Gosforth have a wander around the pretty little village to uncover its interesting history. St. Mary's Church is located towards the west of the village and some of its features date back as early as the Norman period and 12th century. In and around the church there is a collection of Norse artefacts including Viking hogback stones and the Gosforth Cross which is the tallest and oldest Viking cross in England. It's worth a look if you're in the village!
