DOWNLOAD WALK PACK
Walk Instructions
Mostly down the Eastern side of the valley, away from
the main road. Allow at least one and a half hours to
the sea front.Generally an easy route on tracks and
minor roads, but with a steep cobbled stretch either side
of Los Reyes Church.
1. Take the HPB transport and ask the driver to drop you off at
parking strip just above San Antonio Church, close to the left
hand side of the main road next to the church square, which
this road loops around as it descends.
Walk down a couple of flights of steps and rejoin the main
road, walking a further 200 yards down the pavement until
you meet a tight right hand bend. Here on the left is a minor
road which climbs up a few yards and then around to the
right over a small bridge. Follow this road, not worrying that
it climbs up a further 100 ft or so and swings away from the
main valley.
2. Very soon you will start to steadily descend along this road.
At the first bend, which doubles back on itself, there is a small
bar/restaurant. Keep walking down the road for approx. 10
minutes. You will reach a hair pin-bend with a white painted
house on your right. Here, on your left is another minor road.
Following this road, you will reach at its end a cobbled path.
3. Following this cobbled path, within approx. 10-15 minutes
you will reach Los Reyes Church, which has superb views from
its square. In the far corner is a set of steps which takes you
down to the barranco floor, which you cross and head for a
flight of steps up, to rejoin the main road.
4. From then on, the quickest way is alongside the road, and
at the roundabout by the Bus Station there is a choice of
directions - right for the main beach, bars and restaurants or
left to the port and other shops and beaches.
The time to walk between the port and the main beach along
the coastal strip is less than half an hour.
The HPB transport hone to Santa Ana is from Maria’s Bar
(Casa Maria) at the main beach.
NOTE - Should the coastal boat service be re-instated
between Playa Santiago and Valle Gran Rey, then it
maybe possible to catch a bus from ther airport, just
above Santa Ana, which could drop you at San Antonio
Church on the way to Valle Gran Rey, and after arriving
at the town on foot and spending a few hours, to return
on an afternoon boat.
