Walk Instructions

Leave the parking area and cross the road, take the path in front of you somewhat to the right, it descends, and soon there is a stone wall to your left. At the bottom there is a tiny stream and a lavoir (communal clothes wash). Rise over grass towards a farm building, La Fontaine, and join a small roadway, still rising. After a wooden building you see the sign of the 45th parallel to your left.

1) Follow this road, bearing to the left and passing first a modern and then an older house before reaching the hamlet of La Cavaille.

2) Going along the surfaced road as far as the more important D42. Turn left for 60m, then cross it and turn into a minor road signposted ‘Les Garissoux’. Continue through the hamlet of Les Garissoux, passing the occasional strawberry field. Bear right at a fork 150m after the hamlet.

3) This small road rises a little, with cherry trees by the roadside. Pass a farm, keeping to the left, and carry on along a wide, half-surfaced roadway which becomes a track after the entrance to a house and descends the side of a valley. The route passes an area of junipers and pines and there is a sharp bend to the right. (Just in this sharp bend there is a track to the left. If you follow it you arrive in the Louyre valley. The area is interesting for nature and wildlife lovers, but nearly inaccessible. The stream itself is hidden in a maze of streams, abandoned mill ponds, wetlands and alluvial alder forests. Have a look and return as you came.) Go round the bend and pass close to an artificial pond, cross a tiny stream and go uphill, the broad track climbs the far side of the wooded valley.

4) Join a small public road and turn right, soon passing through La Croix hamlet and then reaching the D42. Go right, then left in 10m to cross two roads and follow a very minor roadway which peters out when dwellings are reached. Go straight ahead along an earth track, grassy at the beginning, then descend along the top edge of a meadow, cross a valley with some ponds and rise to the right of the next field, arriving at the road at 1, near the 45° sign. Bear left to return to Veyrines.
