If you're looking for a different way to explore the local area during your stay in Constant, a peaceful day canoing down the Dordogne River might be just the ticket. Travel downstream and take in the spectacular sights of châteaux, villages and little old towns. Enjoy the towering banks, rich history and an array of wildlife, from sparkling waters lively with fish to riverbanks full of herons, kingfishers and dragonflies.

Canoeing in this region is safe and easy, even for beginners. In fact, the current does most of the work for you! It's for a perfect day trip for families or couples... Just take a look at the video below:

The Dordogne has fascinated visitors for centuries - it conjures up images of idyllic old villages and grand chateaus, surrounded by rolling green landscapes and lush green forests. A visit here is a return to a slower way of life, and perfect for a relaxing holiday away from everyday stresses. The whole area is made up of atttractive hills, dotted with stone villages and castles. It's particularly set up for tourism, but manages to cater for it's many visitors while still maintaining it's feeling of being 'off the beaten track'.

Canoe or kayak hire companies are abundant in the area but it’s also possible to book in at Constant. The site manager Sonia has teamed up with local rental company Canoë Détente so everything you might need can be provided for you. There is a choice of sizes from single-person kayaks to canoes large enough for two adults and two children. Colin Hamilton, the resident Activities Coordinator at Constant, is brilliant at finding all the best areas to explore, and is on hand if you need any help or guidance.

The great thing is that from Constant it is really easy to get to the Dordogne, and the huge variety of activities that awaits you there. For those who would rather keep their feet on dry land, there are plenty of opportunities for cycling, walking and much more!

Don’t forget to pack food on your excursion, because stopping off for a picnic along the river, with the stunning views of surrounding châteaux and the sun shining down, is one of the best things to do!

Trips down the river can be as long or as short as you fancy and they provide you with the fantastic opportunity to stop when and where you want to if you fancy exploring one of the many medieval villages that line the banks.
