Witch's Pool

Perthshire, Scotland
Witch's Pool Things To Do

Perthshire is a stunning destination for lovers of the outdoors, boasting scenery ranging from high mountains to low glens and from thick forests to crashing waterfalls. A walk through the beautiful countryside is sure to impress at any time of year.

This fantastic destination for fishing fanatics, with the salmon beat covering 1½ miles of river, provides double-bank and mid-stream fishing - for old hands and novices alike. But more than that, this Blairgowrie location is also a great base for exploring a whole host of other Scottish wonders in the beautiful surroundings.

A Slice of History

A Slice of History

Scotland's fascinating history fills the landscape with castles and ancient civilisations too good to miss. From Blairgowrie both Lochleven and Edzell castle are roughly 50 minutes away. Lochleven, the oldest of the two, is thought to date from as early at the 14th century and housed Mary Queen of Scots while she was prisoner to Sir William Douglas.

Also nearby, the ruinous Arbroath Abbey is located towards the coast, and Stanley Millls, the water powered cotton mills, sit on the banks of the River Tay. Here visitors can explore one of the best-preserved relics of the 18th century Industrial Revolution and learn about the textile industry that brought the buildings to fame. Another 50 miles south of there is a section of the Atonine Wall - the north-west frontier of the Roman Empire. This 8km stretch of 2,000 year old earthworks is included as part of a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Dunkeld Cathedral is another favourite. It has been receiving visitors since Celtic monks established their base here in the 9th century, but has seen many changes since then. Though the cathedral is used for regular worship, and the choir is roofed, a large portion stands in elegant 14th century ruins, and is preserved as an Ancient Monument.

Close to the southern edge of Cairngorms, the largest National Park in the UK, you are within easy reach of some fantastic Scottish Highland landscape. Stunning walking country and a huge variety of wildlife and scenery will greet you here. Explore the mountains, valleys and flat moorland, or take to the waters on one of the many lochs and rivers.
