Blair Castle is the ancient seat of the Dukes and Earls of Atholl, and dates back to the 13th century, when building work began for the first Earl. It is now home to Europe's last remaining private army – the Atholl Highlanders.

The castle is nestled amongst the beautiful scenery of highland Perthshire, strategically positioned on the main route through the Scottish Highlands. The oldest part of the building is thought to be Comming's Tower which retains some of its 13th century features though was mostly built in the 15th century. The castle was extended in the 1500s and again in the 1700s and finally took on its current shape in the 1870s after having been largely remodelled in a Scots Baronial style.

More than 30 rooms in Blair Castle are open to visitors and provide a great insight into the history of its past inhabitants with a range of architectural design on display, period furnishings, family portraits and evidence of a military past. Tours are available that tell the tale of past visitors such as Mary Queen of Scots and Bonnie Prince Charlie, and take you through events from the Civil War to the disaster of Culloden; weapons from which are displayed in the entrance hall.

Blair Castle also boasts stunning grounds and gardens which were mostly laid out in the 18th century. They include a nine-acre walled garden with landscaped ponds, a Chinese bridge, folly and orchard; there is a peaceful woodland with an adventure playground for the younger visitors; attractive bridges and the ruins of St. Bride's Kirk. You will be able to see the red deer park and free roaming peacocks as well as the sculptures of the Garden Trail.

The castle hosts Scotland's leading equestrian event, the Blair Castle International Horse Trials and Country Fair. Every August the the trials attract more than 40,000 visitors over a 4-day event and feature competitions and shows alongside more than 200 exhibitors' trade stands.
