Lycian Way Marathon, Turkey

Lycian Way Marathon, Turkey

The annual Lycian Way Marathon is an adventure around the picturesque coastline of the Bozboron Peninsula in Turkey. This multiday race takes place throughout the ancient Lycian region in September each year.

Hundreds of runners gather for various competitions, from beginners to professionals, with events of varying distances, terrain and difficulty on offer. The main race is the Ultra Marathon which is a course of 250 km and has been split into 6 stages – one per day. It’s a difficult course and runners will be needing to carry equipment, sleeping bag and food with them for the duration. So it’s a challenging competition! But you can have a look at the less challenging ones here.

The Lycian Way is a long-distance footpath, named after the ancient civilisation that once ruled the area; it hugs the south-west coast of Turkey and travels through many historic and protected landmarks. The marathon traces a section of this trail and provides incredible trekking country, with much to see and stunning scenery of the rugged coastline to admire. The varied terrain also makes for an interesting and challenging route.

The marathon takes place between 23rd – 30th September 2017 and is set to be a lot of fun. You can register for the marathon here, if you want to take part yourself. Alternatively, you can simply go and check out the route; see what the competitors are having to face and to get a taste of the countryside for yourself!
