Why not try a charming mode of water travel in the beautiful Lake District and discover how wealthy Victorian visitors once enjoyed a touch of extravagance during their holidays?

On Coniston Water in Cumbria you can hop aboard a restored Victorian steam-powered yacht and journey across the glassy surface of the lake on a wonderful sailing experience that provides you with incredible views of the surrounding lakeland landscape.

This is a great day out for those wanting to do something a little different. You can choose to ride in style in the Gondola's saloons, or relax on the open-air decks as you admire the view out over the majestic Coniston fells rising in the distance. There are a range of options to choose between, from the Parkamoor walkers' cruise, to the intimate Sunday afternoon cream tea for two cruise.

The boats leave regularly and can take you on a round trip, or provide the option to stop off and walk back. So you can break up your journey with a visit to the famous Brantwood House on Coniston's shore, or extend your day to include a walk to Tarn Hows.

The crew provide a commentary on the area's history, and interesting facts along the way. Make sure to take advantage of the opportunity to see the steam engine in action from the open viewing windows. Round off your day with a pick-me-up cuppa at the Bluebird Café on Coniston Pier.

The cruises run between March and October and you can find out more about it all on the National Trust website.
