Eating out in Anglesey

Harry's Bistro is situated in the vicinity of the stunning Henllys Hall, a nineteenth century castle that sits on the hills overlooking the historic town of Beaumaris.

Beaumaris is a coastal town on the Isle of Anglesey, known for its impressive Castle that dates from the thirteenth century. It sits at the eastern entrance to the Menai Strait and parts of its medieval town walls, which were constructed in the early 1400s, can still be seen in places where they once surrounded the town.

Beaumaris has its own good selection of restaurants and pubs but Harry's Bistro is only a short walk away, and certainly worth a visit. The place originally opened in 2004 but the current owners took over four years later and have been there ever since. Chef Simon Doyle and front of House partner Nia Roberts were welcomed to the establishment having built something of a name for themselves, previously working at various restaurants across the island. Though no one really knows who the mysterious Harry was, the bistro's name stuck and has remained unchanged.

Simon and Nia are known for their bistro-style menu and great service. They have created a relaxed and unhurried environment in which to enjoy good food to the beautiful surrounding views of Beaumaris and the Snowdonia mountains. Simon creates a traditional Welsh menu and brings a contemporary feel to things with his own modern dishes as well, using fresh and local ingredients.

They work hard to create a changing menu of seasonal dishes from locally sourced products, using local suppliers when possible. The impressive menu is complimented by a good wine list and accompanied by a great location. The pair pride themselves on the easy, relaxed atmosphere of Harry's, where any diner is sure to enjoy their visit, eat good food and come away a satisfied customer. Here's how to find Harry's Bistro.

We're still intrigued as to how the restaurant got its name and who Harry may have been, so if you have any thoughts we'd love to hear them in the comments below!
