Experience a lively weekend on the estuary of the River Tiddy amid the stunning country estate of Port Eliot...

The Port Eliot Festival takes place every July in Cornwall and is a spectacular celebration of ideas and culture. What created a name for itself as a literary festival over a decade ago has developed into a multitude of words, music, food, culture, film, fashion, flowers, shows and activities that all come together in a long weekend of fun and imagination.

Port Eliot is a vast estate located on the banks of the River Tiddy in South Cornwall. It consists of a large Grade I listed mansion and a Grade I listed parkland. The house is the historic seat of the Eliot family though it was originally built as a priory, meaning parts of it date back as far as the 12th century.

The festival takes place every year in the parkland and woodland gardens of this ancient estate, even finding its way into the house itself with different exhibitions tours and talks going on in various rooms. The four-day festival is great fun for the whole family and there is a whole variety of stages with a great range of different performances and acts, musicians, top chefs and authors to entertain all. This includes the 'Caught by the River' stage down by the estuary which presents talks and sounds on all things natural. 'Flower and Fodder' is the food and flora stage with demonstrations and classes to watch. There's the 'Walled Garden' stage with a collection of literary stars; the imaginative 'Hullabaloo' area or the 'Workshop Barn' for those who really want to get stuck in. And a whole load more besides.

Why not stay a while?...

Those that want to spend more than just a day turn their visit into a night or even the full weekend by setting up camp among the 6,000 acres of beautiful parkland and ancient woodland. Camping in the grounds is relaxing and there's plenty of space with stunning views of the house and estuary. You'll easily be able to secure yourself a peaceful spot that's just a short walk from the action. If you're feeling really flash you could always splash out on one of the luxury boutique camping options that are already there waiting for you.

This year's festival is taking place from 30th July - 2nd August and promises a fantastic line up. There's something fun and interesting going on continually and it's a brilliant opportunity to spend an exciting weekend of culture in one of England's stunning country estates. Whether you plan on just spending the day, or going for the whole long weekend, the atmosphere promises to be great.
