Our Top Five Favourite Beaches around Majorca

You'll want to discover your ideal beach for yourself when you head to Majorca. But there are so many to choose from we thought we'd give you a helping hand and let you in on our top five favourite ones as a starting point!

Es Trenc – Salobrar en Campos

This is a beautiful beach on the southern coast of Majorca that displays twinkling turquoise water that laps at soft white sand. This is a well known and popular spot in summer and, being close to Palma, it does get pretty busy. The beach, its woodlands and sand dunes are now protected as an Area of Special Interest, along with the salt pans close by. This means in the cooler months it is a heaven for many migrating birds, so its an ideal stop-off for bird lovers too. There are some sun beds and parasols on the beach along with a bar and restaurant.

Sa Calobra Beach

This little cove is one of the most beautiful in Majorca. Located to the north, it is best approached from the sea because the drive to the cove takes you round numerous hairpin bends which can be tricky to drive. When you do reach the beach it is breathtakingly beautiful, with pebbles and clear water, overlooked by huge cliffs on either side. The Torrent de Pareis gorge that backs the beach is also spectacular, the mountain range looms protectively overhead and though stunning, walking the length of this beautiful gorge is best left to experienced hikers who can scramble up the rocks.

Cala Varques

This is a pretty, postcard perfect beach only known by a few, so it remains an almost hidden gem. It is reachable only by boat or on foot, so it's not unusual to have the place to yourself. It is on the east coast of the island, surrounded by pine woods and overlooked by pine clad hills. The beach is unspoiled, so there are no facilities just expanses of white sand and crystal clear waters to swim in.

Playa de Muro

This is a lovely beach which stretches for 6 miles and is perfect for families. It is on the north coast of Majorca and made of soft sand that very gently slopes into a lovely calm sea. There is a good selection of bars and restaurants along its length and you get the natural protection of the trees, so there's enough shade if you want it! One end of the beach links up with Alcúdia and the other with C'an Picafort so there is plenty of good facilities and watersports to chose from.

Cala Mondrago

This is a totally natural beach situated in the Mondrago National Park to the south east of the island, with dunes and wetlands that play host to a huge variety of bird species, especially white crane. Here not only will you find fine white sand and invitingly clear waters, but also unusual rock formations, both above and below surface, making it perfect for snorkelers. There is a very small resort close by with its own sandy beach and both are connected by an easy walk around the headland. The resort is small and, being part of the National Park, it is isolated and undeveloped.
