Supermoon this November 2016

Supermoon this November 2016

Don't forget to keep your eyes peeled for the supermoon next week!

There is one good thing to come out of these darker evenings and longer nights, the sky is that much more beautiful. The stars are glowing brightly and we're getting some gloriously clear evenings.

This means that when the supermoon comes around this November, you'll hopefully be getting a brilliant view of it.

There are times in the lunar cycle when the moon moves closer than usual to the earth, this is called the perigee and this November the moon will be closer than it has been for roughly 70 years! It just so happens that this point will coincide with the month's full moon, creating a striking supermoon that may appear up to 30% brighter and 14% larger than a full moon otherwise might.

The full moon will occur on Monday 14th November 2016, but because it reaches it's fullest point during the day time, it may be worth you searching the skies for it both on the night of the 13th and the night of the 14th November.

Take yourself somewhere nice and open, away from the light pollution of the city and just sit and stargaze for a while. The open spaces of the Yorkshire Dales are ideal for this. So while you're staying at Lodge Yard, you'll be in the perfect location.

With the next 'extra-super moon' not due to occur again until November 2034, it is certainly worth catching this one while you can... Remember to wrap up warm though!
