St Brides Castle
From Haverfordwest to St Brides Castle
If arriving from Cardigan or Fishguard follow signs to Town Centre. Drive through centre of town following signs to Dale and Broadhaven. As you exit town you pass a small roundabout with Tescos on the left and further along a Peugeot garage, also on the left. You then come to a V in the road with 'Bellevue' pub at the apex of the V. Take left hand fork (B4327) signposted to Dale. You are now 10 miles from St Brides. Stay on B4327 passing Dreen Hill, the Masons Arms pub and Hasguard Cross. After 7.7 miles you come to Tavernputt crossroads. Continue straight across the crossroads. At 9.2 miles from the Bellevue pub the road turns sharply left signposted to Marloes. There is a phone booth on your right and 100 yards after this, again on the right, is the entrance to St Brides. Follow the roadway through the woods and from there up to the Castle.
Approaching from the A40 Heading West
You will pass the Haverfordwest Golf Club on your right (½ mile from the 'Scotchwell' Roundabout). At the 'Scotchwell' roundabout bear first left and continue to the next roundabout with 'Greens Motors' BP petrol station on your right hand side. Take the 3rd exit. From the large 'Greens Motors' BP garage roundabout take the exit sign for Town Centre/High Street - be very careful to stay as hard left as the road markings permit or you will find yourself heading Safeways and Fishguard - it's a tricky turning! The Country Hotel/County Bar should be on your right hand side as you enter the High Street and the one-way system. Continue from No. 4 below.
Approaching from the A40 Heading South from Fishguard
You will pass Withybush Airport on the left shortly before the outskirts of Haverfordwest. There is a Day's Ford dealership on the left as you come onto a roundabout. Take the third exit ** following the signs for the Town Centre and passing Withybush Hospital on the right to a second roundabout. Take the 2nd exit and continue down the hill to the third rounabout. Take the second exit positioning yourself in the right-hand lane. Turn right at the traffic lights into the High Street. Follow directions from No. 4 below.
Approaching from the A487 Coast Road
After Cardigan look for the B4329 shortly after the hamlet of Eglwyswrw (sorry unable to give a mileage) which takes you over the Preseli Hills down to the 'Cardigan Road' roundabout. Take the 3rd exit (signposted Fishguard and Withybush Hospital) for 0.25 miles to 'Withybush' roundabout. Take the first exit and then follow instructions from ** 2 above. Pass over the bridge and proceed up Haverfordwest High Street ' it narrows at the top of the hill. Shortly there is a road junction ahead and you should position yourself to bear right. The road is signposted for Dale and the B4327. As soon as possible after the right turn move to the left-hand lane and then bear left still following the signpost for Dale on the B4327.
After approximately 100 metres you will pass over a small roundabout with the entrance to TESCOS (last petrol before St Brides) on the left. Continue straight on along this road until you see a Peugeot Garage on your left hand side and the Bellevue Public House in front of you. At the Bellevue bear left to Dale on the B4327. You are now approximately 10.25 miles from St Brides. At 1.2 miles from the Bellevue you pass the village marker signs for 'Dreen Hill' and the Mason's Arms Pub on your right at 1.4 miles. At 3.1 miles on you pass over a very low stone bridge with a furniture manufacturing business on the far left-hand side called 'James Ratford Bridge'. Keep on the B4327 by bearing right and up a slight hill. You will pass the village marker signs for 'Hasguard Cross' at 6.15 miles. Road markings will start to become intermittent.
At 7.7 miles you come to Tavernputt Crossroad - DO NOT TURN LEFT FOR DALE but continue straight across for St Brides. At 8.75 miles follow the left-hand bend in the road which is then followed by a farm building and a large white house on your right. Your first glimpse of St Brides is as you round a left bend at 9.2 miles from the Bellevue. At 9.65 miles bear left around a corner which is signposted Dale & Marloes. The signpost also says St Brides straight on but it leads to St Brides BAY down a dead-end lane (there is a road sign indicating a dead-end in front of you). Bear left, a phone booth and post box is on the right. Take the entrance on the right (100 yards after the phone box) at 9.7 miles and you enter St Brides portals and drive through a wooded area at the end of which you cross over a cattle grid. Look ahead and you will see the Castle. Pass the right hand side of the Castle and through the archway where you will find Reception on your right.
Please report to Reception on arrival. Thank you.
